tricking kids into learning made-up words

today i was eating lunch with my sister and her kids and they discovered a bruised, gooey blueberry. “Ugh!” “Don’t eat that, it’s a bum berry,” I said. My 1.5-year-old nephew repeated “bumberry” like it was a very important word to memorize.

also my 4-year-old niece has decided that she wants to be 30 (presumably, 30, flirty and fun!), a mommy and blonde. my boyfriend responded with, “i like your hair just how it is” and i was like “i dunno … sometimes a girl likes to get highlights. i get that.”
