I’ve had this image in my mind of a guy with cucumbers on his eyes and a white face mask. I like something about that idea. Anyway, I decided to make it real, on Illustrator. I’d like to watercolor paint it, but I’m not around my paints at the moment.
After I saw this calendar by 19-year-old web savant Harry Roberts, I’ve been wanting to make my own. I loved how on his calendar months were linear from top to bottom. It reminded me of how in Chinese time goes from up to down, as in “next week” translates to “down week,” or “below week.” Make sure you check out his! Mine is similar but I added some color and did my own fonts. Here’s a PDF you can download.
Photog Terry Richardson posts pictures of himself hanging out w/ celebrities, and also just oddball American stuff. I like how he writes what he sees in all caps underneath. It makes me picture him joking about it but I can’t hear him joking about it so I get to make up my own jokes.
Wanting to learn more about using typography purely in HTML, I decided to redesign my Tumblr layout. I had already tweaked it from a layout called Orange Peel by Space Man, but I think now I brought it far enough away that I can give it my own name, which I did: Superman Panties, because the colors remind me of the D.C. hunkster of yore.
I took a couple screenshots for those of ya’ll who subscribe and don’t click onto my page much.
Here’s my old layout, for posterity’s sake. I already kind of miss its minimalism, and the creepiness of Christini Ricci, but change is a good thing. I plan to mess around with it more in order to increase my skillz.
Also, if I figure out how to package it right, and further differentiate it from the one I started from, I’ll donate it to Tumblr.
This weekend I painted a City Pages newsstand at the Stone Arch festival. The first picture features the first panel I did. The second one is the last one that I made when they kept saying “You have 5 minutes left …” and I found the cool Sharpie markers that I wish I had done the whole thing with from the get go.
-Painting for 8 hours is fun
-Acrylics remind me of high school, when I had no clue what I was doing
-Cuban sandwiches WILL drip all over everywhere and make a big mess
Anyway, lots of people visited me, which was very nice. Keep an eye out for muh lil basterd newsstand around town.
2 - Go to Quotations Page and select “random quotations” or click http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3 The last four or five words of the very last quote on the page is the title of your first album.
Anyway I got picked to participate in City Pages’ Art and Soul Project, which means I’ll be live painting at their booth this Sunday at the Stone Arch Festival. I have to make something that reflects “local” and City Pages, so I’ll probably paint hipsters from Too Much Love (what Angela called “something for fat people?”) in a weird meleé of animals and glittery violence. Or maybe I won’t! Who knows, at this point? Certainly not you, but possibly me. Haha.
Paged through Esquire and mixed this Calvin Klein cologne logo with this picture of a babe. It is inspired by a conversation about monogamy between my drunken roommates Tony and Mike. They seemed to feel that monogamy is ok as long it’s just serial monogamy and not eternal monogamy, AND if they can talk a lot of shit about the sex they’d like to have throughout the monogamous period.
BTW I find the “How to be a Man” issue less than comprehensive (wink face).
my niece is cute. the other day we were at barnes and noble and i pointed at a book and asked her what color it was suggesting, “pinkish, orangish?” and she answered, “yes, but isn’t it beautiful?” also, she read herself a my little pony book and gave it her own jibberish story, the only part of which i could make out was, “what am i? i am pony.”
My big sister is in that crappy phase of life where you’re applying for jobs all the time, so I decided to take a crack at designing her a portfolio. I’m still not done, but after an hour or so of monkeying around, I came up with this cover page. I’ve been playing with crazy ABCs lately, so I thought they might work out well for someone like her who is trying to get an elementary ed job.
